Ice Arena in Moscow
March 2016

4th Setunsky Proezd, Moscow, Russia

The building is located on the developing territory of the business center. Its dimensions - 75.85 x 32.05 m in the axes. It is divided into two separate blocks with different numbers of storeys. The customer changed the building's functions repeatedly, wishing to achieve the maximum of the commercial efficiency.

On three underground levels the parking is arranged. The ground floor is divided into zones of the swimming pool, car service, boutiques and the public floor of the hotel. The first floor is given to a fitness club and a boxing school. In the right part, the floors with hotel rooms begin.

On the second floor there are multifunctional gyms and hotel rooms on the right part. On the third floor of the main part of the building amateur ice skating rinks with a second light are arranged.

The main ice arena (the skating rink) with the second light is on the fourth floor of the main part and it is the main functional zone of the building. In the left and right parts the height of floors is different because of the heights of ceilings in the sports area.

The constructive scheme of the building is a full frame: columns and beams, walls of staircases, ceilings and a basement plate - from monolithic reinforced concrete.

Since the multilevel ice arenas formed a cumbersome monstrous volume, it was necessary to diversify the orthogonality of its shape without changing the constructive scheme. To do this, first of all, the main glass prism was rotated relatively from the longitudinal axes with partial console beyond the boundaries of the lower floors.

Then a double facade with round tubes mounted in a three-dimensional metric pattern was formed covering the solid glazing. The pattern with rod structure covers the bulky volume and diversifies the image of the building.

The decoration of boutiques and the right part of the building reflect the facades of future hotel planned for construction on nearby territory.

The building will be clearly visible from the Third Transport Ring, so the owner wanted to use the facades for video advertising.

Total area: 25 100 m2
Number of floors: 14
